As you're reading this, you're probably exasperated trying to reach decisions regarding your family law matter that you can live with. Fret no more. A family mediator considers and is sensitive to how difficult these decision are. We are trained to understand each parent's parenting style, the bond with the child, one's ability to parent, division of assets, finances post-divorce, among many other family law matters.
Mediation is a process for people who are having a dispute to talk about their dispute, to make decisions, and to hopefully resolve the issues--with the help of a mediator. While the goal is to try to reach an agreement, you may decide it would be better for you not to come to an agreement. Mediation is voluntary process, where you can reach solutions with the help of a neutral person--a family mediator.
Will the mediator decide like a judge?
No! A mediator does not make decisions for you. You decide! That is the beauty of this process. The parties decide, together. With the help of a family mediator, during the process of family mediation, you can try to find solutions that make sense to you and work for you and your family. What does a family mediator do?
A family mediator helps you talk and discuss disputes with the the party with whom you are having a dispute. The mediator is considered a neutral and impartial person. A mediator's purpose is to help you come up with possible solutions, stay on track, and clarify areas of agreement and disagreement, especially at a time when emotions might be running high.
